RAS NCAA Football - "Early Looks" Report - Week 7
About this update: The RAS "Early Looks" Report is released each Sunday Night shortly after the opening numbers for the following week's games are posted at major offshore sportsbooks. It typically will include 3-7 plays with analysis. This report focuses on beating potential line moves during the week. All plays are recommended for a 1/2 UNIT.
Money Management: Money management is even more important to the success of a sports bettor than picking winners. Please practice sound money management and always wager responsibly. Win streaks and losing streaks will occur, do not overreact to either.
Week 6 Recap: Late money poured in on Idaho as they closed -3 at a few books. That money proved to be smart as Idaho's defense amazingly held NMSU to just 13 points for most of the game in a 28-20 win. As predicted New Mexico's blitzing defense gave Wyoming's freshman QB some problems early. He threw two interceptions and lost a fumble in the first half alone. New Mexico only capitialized with 10 points and led 10-0 at halftime, but an absolutely anemic offense gave Wyoming too many chances to come back and they eventually did with two second half TD drives for a 14-10 win.
*Lines current as of 6:30pm PST on Sunday.

Wake Forest (+5.5) at NC State - 9:00am Pacific - Game #317-318
The Demon Deacons had been undefeated for five games and last week were in control vs Clemson for 3+ quarters. Wake Forest led the #12 ranked Tigers 17-3 and were setting up for a field goal that would put them up 17. A botched snap led to a 66 yard fumble return for a touchdown and soon after the wheels came off as Clemson scored 24 unanswered points in the 4th quarter. The Deacs are still 5-1 and head coach Jim Grobe knows they can still get to a bowl game for just the fourth time in 27 years if they are able to bounce back. The experienced Wake defense (10 returning starters) continues to be solid week in and week out. Redshirt freshman QB Riley Skinner, aside from the 4th quarter last week, has proven to be solid since replacing starter Ben Mauk. After two embarrassing losses, NC State turned their season around with two improbable narrow home wins over Boston College & Florida State. Sophomore QB Daniel Evans has started the last two games and has produced more than former starter Marcus Stone, but is still inexperienced and his numbers are not very impressive. NC State now returns to the home favorite role in which they have struggled going 10-17 ATS under Chuck Amato, including a straight up loss to Akron this season. Meanwhile, Wake Forest is 14-7 ATS in the away dog role and 4-1 ATS vs NC State under Jim Grobe. Had Wake held on vs Clemson last week a case could be made for making them the favorite here. Take the points.

Maryland (-4) at Virginia - 12:30pm Pacific - Game #319-320
The Terps are coming off their best showing off the season, losing by 4 at Georgia Tech. They led the game by 9 in the 4th quarter but two turnovers in the final period did them in. They still had a chance to win with a 1st down at the Tech 7 yard line in the final minute but failed to convert. This team has only had two real tests this season and still has their best football in front of them. Coaches and players insist they are much better than last years version. RB Lance Ball had a 100+ yard game vs the Yellow Jackets and emerging freshman WR Derrius Heyward-Bey may have finally arrived with his first career 100+ yard receiving game. Senior WR Drew Weatherly returned from injury last week, did not have a catch, but should be more of a factor going forward. He was expected to be Maryland's top receiver this season. Virginia was beaten soundly by East Carolina 31-21 last week. The previously reliable Cavalier defense allowed 432 total yards to the Pirates who were playing without their top WR and top RB. The UVA offense continues to struggle. They resorted to trickery to score their first TD, their second was setup after a blocked punt, and the third came on a meaningless late drive in the final seconds. The loss leaves Virginia with almost no hope of a bowl game and little to play for but what little pride they have left. Maryland is 12-6 ATS off a straight up loss and 14-7 ATS in conference away games under Ralph Friedgen. Take the road favorite.

Rutgers at Navy (-2) - 10:30am Pacific - Game #329-330
Navy struggled a bit offensively early in the season and also battled some injury woes in their secondary. The offense is now clicking on all cylinders and the injuries on defense have healed. Navy followed up a crushing win over UConn with a convincing road win over a solid Air Force team last week. This may turn out to be Navy's best all around team under 5th year yead coach Paul Johnson. Senior QB Brian Hampton, a first year starter, has really emerged with three straight 100+ yard rushing games. Navy does not need to pass much but after going 2-for-9 in first two games, Hampton has completed 20 of his last 38 attempts. Navy's nine returning starters on defense is the most they have had in my 15 seasons of records. Rutgers is coming off a BYE week but they are just 6-17 ATS in last 24 in that situation. This is a tough spot for the Scarlet Knights. They are sitting at 5-0, but spent a lot of time on recruiting during their extra week, and they begin the heart of the Big East schedule with a tough game at Pitt right after this. Rutgers showed some vulnerability in their narrow 22-20 road win at South Florida last time out which was aided by a +2 turnover ratio. Navy lost 31-21 at Rutgers last season but were -3 turnovers for the game. They routed Rutgers 54-21 here two seasons ago. It is homecoming week for Navy and they are 17-3 straight up at home since 2003. Give the small number.
