January 18 Sheet

NC State at Florida State (-1.5) - 5:00pm Pacific
Much needed home game for the Seminoles who have played 5 of their last 6 games away from home. FSU fell behind 18-0 at Maryland losing any chance at a competitive game. They did however fare much better in next game at Georgia Tech as they battled all the way through against a good Yellow Jackets team. If not for a late first half run by the Jackets it is a game that would have most likely gone down to the wire. It almost did anyway. This is the same Georgia Tech team who blew out NC State by 24 in their previous game.

First year head coach Leonard Hamilton is doing a great job here as FSU is getting improved play out of just about everyone on their roster. Senior center Trevor Harvey has been extremely active this season. He is averaging 7.7ppg, 5.4rpg, 1.6bpg, and 1.6spg in just 17.6 minutes per game. Junior forward Michael Joiner (10.6ppg, 5.0rpg) & sophomore forward Anthony Richardson (12.3ppg, 5.7rpg) provide a solid athleticism on the wings. JC transfer shooting guard Tim Pickett is slowing improving his shot selection and leads the team at 17.6ppg. He is also third in the nation in steals at 3.5 per game. JC transfer PG Nate Johnson is not spectacular but runs the team well. Both guards are getting better as they adjust to Division 1. Senior center Mike Mathews, sophomore forward Adam Waleskowski & speedy freshman guard Todd Galloway give FSU a big advantage off the bench.

NC State is flat out struggling right now and I do not see any way for them to get out of their slump anytime soon. Wolfpack have been horrible in their three games away from Raliegh. They lost to Gonzaga by 9 on a neutral court, then lost by 12 at UMass, and then by 24 at Georgia Tech. They are coming off a disappointing 12 point home loss to Boston College which was their third loss in four games. Virginia is the only major conference team they have beaten in six weeks. NC State is at a bit of a disadvantage having just played a non-conference game on Thursday and now traveling for a Saturday ACC game. It is of even greater significance to them due to the fact that they are strictly a six man team. The lack of depth and the fact that they have played all season without a true point guard has contributed to a very inconsistent offense.

FSU owns impressive home wins over Iowa & Miami, Fla. They lost by just one point here to Florida. Their only bad showing at home was vs UNC where they just collapsed in the second half. They are still 4-1 ATS in home games vs NC State who is 0-3 ATS in away games. Seminoles are a solid, well coach team who is playing better than looked. Look for them to earn a much needed ACC win tonight.
