January 18 Sheet

Virginia at Clemson (+1) - 12:00pm Pacific
Tigers come into this game underrated in my opinion. They are 10-2 and critics will say they have not played anyone, but they did beat a good Cincinnati team convincingly. Clemson's only losses this season came vs Duke and at North Carolina in last game by just two points.

I never thought I would say this about point guard Edward Scott, but he has blossomed into an all conference type of player in this his senior year. After averaging 11.9ppg last season he has upped his scoring to 18.2ppg to go along with 6.4apg. He averaged 22.5ppg vs Duke & UNC. He is showing the ability to take over ball games this year. Sophomore guard Chey Christie is a nice running mate who can score 11.2ppg and defend 1.8spg. The Clemson frontline is deep and strong. Sophomore Sharrad Ford (10.2ppg, 7.9rpg), senior Ray Henderson (8.9ppg, 7.4rpg), junior Chris Hobbs (8.2ppg, 6.3rpg), and recently returned from injury (played in last four games) senior Thomas Nagys (8.2ppg, 4.0rpg) are not going to be outworked by anyone.

Virginia is coming off a seemingly good showing at Duke on ESPN which probably has them overvalued in this spot. Duke is a young team who will be prone to inconsistent play, and the Blue Devils had Maryland on deck. Still, Duke was never seriously threatened in the 2nd half. Cavs are now 1-3 in true road games this season. In their other ACC road game they were beaten soundly at NC State who is really struggling right now. Virginia does get solid point guard play out of Todd Billet but this is his first go around in the ACC and teammates are still adjusting to the Rutgers transfer. Fellow guards Jermaine Harper & Keith Jennifer are just sophomores. In both of Clemson's losses this season they were hurt by opposing guards, but UVA has no perimeter standouts that should give them trouble.

Tigers are a forgotten team and are hungry for respect. They beat Virginia by 16 here last season. Virginia is just 4-12 ATS in their last 16 road games and 0-6 as a road favorite. Expect Clemson to get their first ACC win today.
