Official Plays - Week 8
One play this week:
North Texas at Troy (-19) - 12:30pm Pacific - Game #397-398
Troy has clearly established itself as the class of the Sunbelt Conference in 2007. After losses at Arkansas and at Florida to start the season they have reeled off four straight impressive wins by an average margin of 17.5ppg against opponents who are tougher than what they will face here. Troy dominated Big 12 foe Oklahoma State, outgaining them by 130 total yards, and the Cowboys are 3-0 ATS since. Troy outgained three Sun Belt opponents by an average of 105 yards per game despite playing two of three on the road. The Trojan offense is led by an all conference senior dual threat QB in Omar Hougabook. Defensively, they have by far the best pass defense in the conference (21st nationally) which will serve them well against UNT's pass happy offense. Troy will be playing at home for just the third time this season where they are 24-4 under Larry Blakeney who will be coaching in his 200th career game. It is homecoming week for Troy and they are 20-1-1 in homecoming games under the long time coach. Troy also has the benefit of a BYE week heading into this game.

North Texas got their first win of the season last week vs UL Monroe but it came with a lot of luck. Monroe's starting QB was knocked out of the game in the first half. UNT returned two interceptions for touchdowns and scored another on a simple short out pass that due to shoddy tackling went for a 99 yard touchdown. That left UNT up 21-0 against a team who's strength is running the ball and had to go with a backup QB but they still were outscored 24-10 the rest of the way. The Mean Green have 16 players in their current two deep who have not yet earned a varsity letter and four starters are former walk-ons. They named true freshman QB Giovanni Vizza the starter two games back. Against Monroe he threw for 202 yards but 99 came on the one play mentioned above. The youth movement can be seen on defense as well where head coach Dodge recently began giving two true freshman extensive playing time at linebacker. North Texas enters this game last in the nation in scoring defense and second to last in total defense. Both starting cornerbacks Antoine Bush (hamstring, probable) and Dominque Green (shin, questionable) have missed practice time this week. They already have the worst pass defense in the Sun Belt and will be going against the Sun Belt's best scoring offense. Both of these teams like to use no huddle and play fast on occassion so their will be extra possessions and scoring opportunities (current game total is 66). Expect the Trojans to score easily and often while cruising to a 3+ touchdown win. Give the points.
