UAB at UTEP (-1) - 6:00pm Pacific - Game #791-792
After several hard knocking efforts, the Miners finally broke through with a conference road win two games back at Marshall, not an easy place to win, in fact UAB was unable to do so earlier this year. UTEP backed that performance up with a dominating 29 point win over East Carolina on Saturday and may now be playing their best basketball of the season. The Miners are 11-1 at home and a perfect 6-0 at home in conference play. Previous meeting at UAB was a two point game at the 1:13 mark despite UAB holding a +18 rebounding margin which UTEP head coach Barbee has referred to as "disgusting" this week. UAB also had 16 more bench points. UTEP should improve significantly in both of those categories on their home floor. UAB is still just two games removed from blowing a late lead in heartbreaking loss to #1 Memphis. They are a .500 team away from home this year and will be playing in their first back to back conference road situation of the season. UAB has gone 4-2 in C-USA road games but two of the wins have come vs bottom feeders SMU and Rice, and a third win came by just 1 at Tulane after a three point shooter was fouled at the buzzer and made all three. Blazer leading scorer Vaden missed the Rice game four games back with a groin injury and after shooting .437 from 3-point range in his first 21 games, has shot just .327 in his last five. Give the small number.
