Virginia Commonwealth at Hofstra (+6.5) - 4:00pm Pacific - Game #739-740
Hofstra head coach Tom Pecora planned on his young team being much improved as the season went on, but they had to grow up in a hurry after losing star senior guard Agudio for three games with an ankle injury in late December. The Pride learned to rely less on him and since his return have gone 4-1 ATS with only spread loss coming by a 1/2 point in 2OT as a 6.5 dog. Freshman G Jenkins has been sensational of late having just won his third conference rookie of the week honor. Transfer F Johnson who has shed nearly 30 pounds has filled the void in the middle and had a monster 14 point, 12 rebound, 8 block coming out party against Mason two games back. In last outing Hofstra had to overcome a huge letdown situation after losing in 2OT's Thursday night but nevertheless won outright as a five point dog at Drexel in a noon start a day and a half later. Virginia Commonwealth is coming off a huge rivalry win over local foe ODU and now must travel to play a Hofstra team they just beat 11 days ago which may be difficult for a young team with four freshman in the rotation. VCU beat Hofstra by 10 in Richmond but the game was competitive (4 point game with 2 minutes to play) and Hofstra had to overcome yet another difficult schedule situation that day having played Thursday night at UNCW before a noon start at VCU on Saturday. Hofstra is 26-5 in CAA home games since Agudio's arrival with 4 of those losses coming in OT and the fifth being by just a single point. This is just their third home game in the last five weeks and they will be sky high for it. Take the points.
