Utah State at New Mexico State (Under 143.5) - 6:00pm Pacific - Game #741-742
NMSU has been playing at a slower pace over the past six weeks and have gone under in 8 of last 11 games. Once top frontcourt players Tyrone Nelson and Hatilla Passos fully recovered from early season injuries, the team has favored more of a half-court style game. They have also been playing more zone defense in the latter stages of the season. NMSU starting guard Fred Peete, third on team in scoring and assist leader, has been hampered by a bone chip in his foot. He missed three games completely and has been extremely limited (11 combined minutes) in last two. His absence has hurt offensive output in recent games. Utah State games average 136.6 for the season not including OT. They have had some misleading high final scores in recent weeks due to late game fouling. The two regular season meetings between these two averaged 143.5. USU's Jaycee Carroll had a career high 44 in the first meeting and NMSU shot a scorching 56% from the field in second meeting. Both teams will be playing their third game in three days and this is clearly a pressure packed game with an NCAA tournament bid on the line. Take the under.
