Mississippi State at Ole Miss (-2.5) - 4:00pm Pacific - Game #515-516
Even with five straight ATS wins, Ole Miss is still undervalued. The Rebels have not had what I would consider a "bad" loss all season. This is despite breaking in a new coaching staff and going without leading returning scorer and rebounder center Dwayne Curtis for the first month of the season. Even when Curtis did return he had to work himself in to game shape and team chemistry had already been lacking with 12 different players making at least one start over the season. Things have been falling into place for the Rebels in recent weeks. Curtis has averaged 13.4ppg & 8.8rpg in SEC play. Senior guard trio of Clarence Sanders, Todd Abernethy, and Bam Doyne have gotten more comfortable in new system. Good looking freshman G/F Eniel Polynice is providing quality depth on the perimeter. Seven of the team's top eight players are upperclassmen. In their last five games they have beaten Arkansas and Tennessee at home and played well in losses at LSU, at Florida, and at Vanderbilt. On Saturday at first place Vandy they actually had a chance to take a lead late in the game but missed a critical front end of a one & one free throw. The Rebels are 10-1 at home this year and should have an excellent crowd with instate rival in town.
The Bulldogs are just 2-6 in their last 8 games, but have covered four of five ATS so they are still well valued by oddsmakers. In contrast to Ole Miss, Mississippi State has just two upperclassmen in their top eight. They have had some close losses, but have looked mostly ordinary this season and are just 1-5 in road games. Two games back they had a shot at upsetting #1 Florida but could not get the job done and then suffered an embarrassing home loss vs South Carolina on Saturday. Mississippi State has better days ahead next season but another tough road test is not going to help their confidence right now. Ole Miss still has a chance of making noise this year but must take care of business tonight. Look for them to avenge earlier 10 point loss to the Bulldogs with a solid win. Give the points.
