Dayton at Duquense (Over 141, play to 145) - 4:00pm Pacific - Game #525-526
Three days before last game, Duquense learned that backup center Almamy Theiro would be out indefinitely with a lung ailment. Theiro was one of only two players with good size left on the roster. It was then that head coach Ron Everhart began implementing a new style of play intended to speed up opponents. In last game vs UMass, the Dukes played an aggressive attacking defense and rotated 10 different players in and out, often subbing five at a time. They had some success as they stayed competitive with UMass for most of the game, but more importantly the game ended with 188 total points scored, 37.5 points above the posted total for the game. The two teams combined for 150 shot attempts, 49 FT attempts, and Duquense forced 23 turnovers. "I think it's something that fits us. I think the kids like it. They enjoy playing that way," Everhart said after the game. Later indicated that the team may not play at the same frenetic pace in every game moving forward, but they will continue to speed things up and substitute liberally. Dayton games are averaging 129.42ppg for the season but they played a lot of slow down teams early on. In their five A-10 conference games, the game totals have averaged 141.86. In their five road games they have allowed 74.6ppg. Expect this one to get over 150.
