Dayton at Charlotte (-3.5) - 4:00pm Pacific - Game #761-762
The 49ers are playing better basketball of late, going 4-1-1 ATS over a six game span but are still only 5-7 ATS overall and considered a disappointment. They blew second half leads in their first two conference games leading by as much as 11 in the second half both at Dayton and vs St. Joseph's, but rebounded well after a six day layoff with an impressive road win at Richmond last time out. It was their first road win of the season. Charlotte has made strides on defense holding their last seven opponents to 66.0ppg after giving up 77.25 in first eight games. Team chemistry issues have plagued the team in some games but touted JC transfer point guard Carlos Williams is coming off perhaps his most efficient game of the season with 6 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists with only one turnover, indicating after the game that the team's chemistry issues are behind them. Senior forward Jerell Jamison has played very well in last four games off the bench after missing three games with a foot injury. Charlotte's big three of senior D'Angelo Alexander, senior Leemire Goldwire, and junior E.J. Drayton are as good as any trio in the A-10. This team may just now be hitting stride.
I have not been impressed by Dayton. They have had few, if any good performances. They are 2-13 on the road dating back to last season, including 0-4 straight up & ATS this year. The Flyers are 2-1 in A-10 play but they needed to rally late to beat this same Charlotte team by 3 two weeks ago and in last win escaped by just 2 points vs a below average LaSalle team. Flyer forward Norman Plummer is third on the team in scoring and leads the team in rebounding but has already been suspended twice this season (most recently two games back) and is said to be in the coaches doghouse. Projected starting point guard transfer Andres Sandoval suffered a foot injury in the preseason and has not lived up to expectations leaving freshman Marcus Johnson as the starter. Charlotte will be looking to avenge tough loss at Dayton 13 days ago. In that game Charlotte played without backup center Antwon Coleman (illness, 14.7 minutes per game) and led most of the way before Dayton ended the game with a 12-2 run to win by 3. Charlotte is talented enough to compete with anyone in the A-10 and is 107-30 (.781) all time at Halton Arena, beating Dayton here by 17 last year. Expect 49ers to take care of business tonight. Give the points.
