San Francisco at Northern Arizona (-1.5) - 5:30pm Pacific - Game #763-764
The Lumberjacks won the Big Sky regular season title last year and return 4 starters plus five more letterwinners. They are a more than capable team despite 40 point loss on Saturday vs UNLV in a game played in Utah. That poor showing is giving us an extra 1-2 points tonight. Leading scorer Ruben Boykin was reportedly battling food poisoning days leading up to the game but it was still an embarrassing loss for an experienced team with high expectations. NAU has also lost at Kansas and at Arizona this year, but did pull out a win at Arizona State. These two teams faced off in San Francisco eight days ago with USF pulling out a 9 point win. NAU had some early foul trouble and shot very poorly (3-for-19 from 3-pt range) but dominated on the boards by a +14 margin. USF shot 56% for the game, well above their season average, but still had trouble putting NAU away.
Since the first meeting, USF has played straight road games, which makes this their fourth straight on the road, and sixth game in eleven days overall. Top inside player Alan Wiggins left in the second half of last game with an ankle injury and is officially questionable Wednesday. Wiggins had a season high 23 points in first meeting. USF has recently returned three players from injury to their rotation so they still may need some adjustment time. Guard Antonio Kellogg was recently demoted to a reserve role and starting guard Manny Quesada is just 3-for-17 from 3 point range in last four games. The Dons are 1-4 in true road games this season and 3-12 in non-conference road games under Jesse Evans. This will be Northern Arizona's first home game vs a Division 1 opponent this year. They are 14-1 in their last 15 regular season games at the Walkup Skydome. They will be out to avenge loss to USF 8 days ago and make amends for poor showing on Saturday. Give the small number.
