Cal State Fullerton (+4) at Long Beach State - 7:30pm Pacific - Game #825-826
The Titans fell just short vs league leading Pacific two games back. They played well enough to win but just did not make enough plays down the stretch. They did rebound with a solid win over Cal State Northridge in very next game. CSF dominated from the get go and won by 18. It was their best overall performance in over a month. The Titans are finally starting to play consistent defense. They have held their last two opponents to under 65 points after not doing so in any of their previous eight games. In last game point guard Bobby Brown (15 points, season high 8 assists) and power forward Jamal Brown (25 points on 12-of-15 shooting) showed no signs of recent injuries that had them both playing at less than 100%.
Long Beach has put forth three straight suspect performances. After needing to come back from 20 down in the second half to escape with a win over Cal Poly they again started slow and lost outright to UCSB last Saturday. This is just not a team that can be trusted to beat anyone. They are now 0-3 ATS in last three games in a non-underdog role. Head coach Larry Reynolds is badly disliked by the loyal LBSU followers. Most would rather see the team lose to ensure his departure at the end of the season. The 49ers have not covered in three straight home games.
Fullerton dominated the first meeting between these two. The Titans shot 8.5% better from the field and had a +10 rebounding edge but somehow lost in OT after blowing a 5 point lead with 20 seconds left in regulation. Long Beach State then banked in a 3 pointer at the buzzer to win in OT. That loss clearly did not sit well with CSF and I look for them to take care of some unfinished business this evening. Take the points.
