February 1 Sheet

LSU at Alabama (-7) - 2:00pm Pacific
After a 9-0 start and a #1 ranking, the Tide find themselves in an almost must win situation here. Yes, they have lost 5 of their last 8 games, but it is not as bad as it appears. Four of the five losses have been on the road. It started with a 2 point loss at Utah. The Utes have won 9 of 10 games and appear to be the cream of the MWC this season. They then lost by just one at Vanderbilt. The Commodores are always tricky to play at home and just beat Georgia this week. The next two were at Auburn (instate rival) & at Ole Miss (without Terrance Meade). The margins were not as small but both opponents are very good teams always play well at home. Bama's last loss came vs Kentucky who may just be playing the best basketball in the country right now.

Sophomore guard Mo Williams has been in somewhat of a shooting slump but he is too good to stay in it for much longer. Senior post players Erwin Dudley and Kenny Walker are as good of a senior inside tandem as there is in the country. Guards Terrance Meade & Antione Pettway will get after you defensively. Freshman Kennedy Winston (Alabama Mr. Basketball) returned to action six games back after serving 11 game suspension. He has chipped in 7.5ppg since. Wings Ernest Shelton & Emmett Thomas round out a great eight man rotation that can go deeper if needed.

LSU comes in on a four game losing streak. They were beaten soundly by Florida in last game. They are 0-3 in true road games including 8 point loss at Arkansas. Their three point loss at Miss State is a bit misleading as game was never in doubt. The Tigers are not a deep team to begin with as they use primarily seven players. Today they will be without their best inside player, starting center Jaime Lloreda due to one game suspension. He is the teams second leading scorer, leading rebounder, and best shotblocker. He will be sorely missed today and LSU will be left with just six available SEC caliber players.

Alabama has had a full week to think about its recent losses and resolve any issues within the team. They began the week by practicing twice a day and the entire week consisted of "grueling workouts" that were closed to the public. "It's been a productive week," said coach Gottfried. As if they did not have enough incentive to win already, Gottfried and LSU coach Brady have had some bad blood for sometime now. Bama is almost certain to come out with a spirited effort this afternoon. This is still the same team that has beaten Oklahoma, Xavier, and Miss State. This has double digit win written all over it. Give the points.
